China's embassy in Canada said that it resolutely opposes the arrest of Chinese tech giant Huawei's global chief financial officer by Canadian authorities.
The embassy has made solemn representations to Canada and the United States.
The embassy said in a statement on its website that it demanded immediate release of Meng Wanzhou.
Canada has arrested Meng, daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, in Vancouver, where she is facing extradition to the United States, Canada's Department of Justice said on Wednesday.
Meng, who is one of the vice chairs on the Chinese technology company, was arrested on December 1 and a court hearing has been set for Friday, a Canadian Justice Department spokesman said.
Huawei confirmed the arrest in a statement and said that it has been provided little information of the charges against Meng, adding that it was "not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng."
